Adoption
To meet the birds available for adoption, click on the bird species at left or drop by Parrot University during normal visiting hours. All birds located at Parrot University are available for adoption. More birds are currently in foster homes,
CPR was organized because of the growing number of parrots needing new homes. CPR's focus includes identifying potential adoption homes and educating caregivers in proper parrot care. There are currently more than 60 companion parrots waiting to be adopted, plus the program has a four month waiting list.
CPR is dedicated to rescue, foster and adoption of surrendered or found parrots. Each bird acquired by CPR is examined by a Board Certified Avian Veterinarian, medically treated if necessary and placed into a 30-day off site quarantine program.
All potential adopters must complete two free classes - 'Parrot 101' and either 'Avian Medicine' or 'Avian Anatomy'. Class schedules can be found at www.parrotu.com.
Potential adopters must also spend hands-on time with their potential adoption bird, under the supervision of store personnel. A completed Adoption Application and a home visit are also required. Adoption fees are collected and used to offset medical expense and care of birds in the program.
